AmCham Monthly Meeting and Briefing with U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Mrs. Georgette Mosbacher, and representatives of the U.S. Embassy leadership team.
During the meeting we will brief Ambassador Mosbacher on the 2020 impact on companies, employees, and investment plans. To serve this purpose we invited sectoral business representatives to talk about the return to growth and likely long-term impacts on US companies in the market. Our guest speakers to address critical issues in their sectors will be,
Sławomir Sikora, President & CEO of Citi Handlowy; Mark Loughran, General Manager at Microsoft; Alain Simonnet, Managing Director East Europe Region of 3M; and Adam Pieńkowski, Managing Director of McDonald's. They will comment on the impact of Covid-19, regulations, work force, investment environment, and the Polish government's actions in these areas.
After the sectoral briefing and discussion, the Ambassador will take questions from the membership. Please send us your questions in advance.

B. Bix Aliu returned to U.S. Embassy Warsaw to serve as the Deputy Chief of Mission in June 2019. Fifteen years ago, Bix was a Vice-Consul and Deputy Cultural Attaché at the
Embassy. Most recently, Bix served as the U.S. Consul General in Krakow. Prior to returning to Poland, Bix was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Montenegro, where he often served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Counselor, Bix began his Foreign Service career in Macedonia where he was involved in the Rambouillet Peace Accords as a member of the delegation of the U.S. Special Envoy to Kosovo. During his diplomatic career, Bix was detailed to Congress as a Pearson Congressional Fellow and served as a Special Advisor to the Representative of Virginia’s Second Congressional District. He also served at the Department of State’s National Foreign Affairs Training Center, where he helped shape the future generation of the U.S. Foreign Service. Bix has represented U.S. interests abroad in Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, and the UAE. Bix has received numerous State Department Awards, including seven Superior Honor Awards and six Meritorious Honor Awards. He was selected as a member of the inaugural class of Colin Powell Fellows, a program for select Foreign Service Officers who demonstrate inspiring qualities of excellence and leadership. In 2008, the Albanian-American community of Chicago chose Bix as “Person of the Year.” In 2014, he was featured as one of the top 150 Albanian- American Success Stories among the Albanian-American Community in the U.S. In 2019, the Mayor of Krakow decorated Bix with the Honoris Gratia Medal, the city’s highest honor, for his significant advancement of economic and cultural ties between the United States and Krakow. A native of Chicagoland, Bix holds a Medical Degree from the University of Kosovo School of Medicine and a Master of Strategic Studies Degree from the U.S. Army War College. He speaks fluent Albanian, Montenegrin, Macedonian, Serbian, and Polish, among others. Bix is married and has two children.
Tony Housh, is a strategic policy, business and communications advisor with twenty years of experience in Poland and CEE. He advises and assists companies in a wide range of sectors including defense, energy, innovative technologies and bio-sciences. He has served as the Chairman of AmCham since January 2015.
He is a frequent commentator on Polish television outlets as well as on leading radio and has published numerous articles on trade, investment, innovation and security in a wide range of publications. He served as non-executive board member and audit committee member of the NASDAQ and WSE listed CEDC and participated in transactions totaling well over 1 billion USD. He previously served as the Director of the American Chamber of Commerce and the country officer for Poland at the US Department of Treasury. Prior to beginning his work in Poland, Tony held analyst roles in London and Brussels as well as running two successful US Congressional campaigns. Tony received his MA in European Integration cum laude from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). He is a graduate of the University of Kansas (USA) and was an exchange scholar in Soviet & East European Studies at the University of Essex (UK). He is an alumnus of the Salzburg Seminar. On November 2014 he was awarded the Knights Cross for services to the Republic of Poland by President Komorowski. On February 18, 2019, Tony was appointed as Director for Poland, Central Europe & Baltic Region at Northrop Grumman.
Before taking over the position of General Manager at Microsoft in Poland, Mark Loughran had been the General Manager of the Consumer & Devices Sales division at Microsoft UK for 3.5 years. Together with his team, he achieved outstanding results in the sales of consumer products and solutions offered by Microsoft UK.
Over the years, his professional career included a number of industries and markets. Initially, he was engaged in the healthcare sector and the sales to the public sector. For 14 years, he worked for GlaxoSmithKline. For 6 years, he managed the company’s business in the Central and Eastern Europe, of which, for 4 years, he worked and lived in Poland, holding the position of General Manager and President of the Management Board at GSK Poland. In this period of time, he led the merger of Polfa Poznan with the international business of GSK. Mark Loughran also sat on the board of the Confederation of Polish Employers (KPP), currently known as the Employers of Poland, which is the oldest and largest umbrella organisation of employers in Poland. Mark Loughran also held the position of Sales Director and, next, General Manager at Nokia UK & Ireland, where he introduced the first smartphone into the British market. Later, he worked for PACE (currently known as Arris), a television and broadband technology company, where he led a team of hardware and software engineers and sales teams responsible for the sales of digital services and digital platform to the biggest telecommunication companies, offering pay TV services, in the world. Mark Loughran has an MA and PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Adam graduated from Warsaw School of Economics, Faculty of Marketing and Management. He started his career at Levi Strauss Poland and then joined Kraft Food, Inc., where he held various marketing positions both in Poland and abroad. Adam joined McDonald’s in 2006 as Marketing and Research Manager and in 2008 took over responsibility for Marketing. In 2009 he assumed additional 2-year assignment working with the European Marketing Team to develop a marketing strategy for European countries in the Sport Sponsorship area. Adam was promoted to Senior Director Marketing in McDonald’s Germany, moving to Munich in July 2013. He was a part of the company team force on turnaround plan for Germany, leading the marketing team. In September 2014 Adam moved back to Poland, fulfilling the position of Marketing Director Central Europe. His primary role was to coordinate creations and executions of marketing plans for 19 markets (incl. 7 company markets and 12 DL’s ones).
From September 2015 back in Poland at the position of Multidepartment Senior Director (leading Operations, Franchising, IT, Marketing and Strategy). As of June 2016, he assumed responsibility for the Polish market as Managing Director. Father of two sons and a daughter. Hobby: sports (basketball, football, skiing).
Sławomir S. Sikora was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Bank Handlowy in Warsaw S.A. in 2003.
In 2005 - 2008 he was Member of Citigroup Management Committee in New York. In the years 2001-2003 he was Chief Executive Officer of American Bank in Poland. His earlier career position was the Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Powszechny Bank Kredytowy S.A. (1994-2001). Prior to this, he held a number of senior positions at the Poland’s Ministry of Finance, including the Head of Banking and Financial Institutions (1989-1994). In this capacity, he successfully oversaw the government-run banking sector rehabilitation program (1992-1994) Sławomir S. Sikora is a graduate of Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and a Konrad Adenauer Research fellow at the University of Cologne Sławomir S. Sikora has gained extensive board experience including present roles as a member of Supervisory Regulations Advisory Committee at The Polish Banks Association a Vice President of the Board of the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan and member of the Emerging Markets Advisory Council at the Institute of International Finance (Washington D.C.) In 2010 he was awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Alain Simonnet holds a position of Managing Director of 3M East Europe Region, covers such countries like Poland, Ukraine, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary and Georgia.
He joined 3M in 1990. Since then he has held many management positions related to sales and marketing in Great Britain and France, gradually expending responsibility from local to European. He has a very broad business experience and brings several years of successful management of complex organizations and customer experience in 3M. Alain holds a Master in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from ENIT in France and graduated from UK Chartered Institute of Marketing; he is also certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
