What happens next to Brexit?

Alan Houmann is the managing director and head of Citi’s government affairs team for Europe, Middle East and Africa. The team is focussed on public policy issues, including regulatory reform. Alan is a member of Citi’s EMEA Operating Committee (OpCo), and is the regional representative on Citi’s Pride Affinity Steering Committee. He is based in London. Alan participates actively in the public policy arena, having served on the Board of TheCityUK, a body set up to promote financial services in the UK and aboard; he also chairs TheCityUK’s EU Strategy Group, and is a member of the executive board of its International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG). Alan also serves on the External Affairs Committee of UK Finance (formerly the British Bankers Association), and chairs its Brexit Advisory Committee. He also serves on the board of the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE), which aims to enhance consultation between global business, policy-making and diplomatic communities. Alan has a broad background in EU financial services policy. He joined Citi in 2007, from the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS), which has since been re-established as the European Banking Authority (EBA). He served as a senior adviser and deputy to the Secretary General. CEBS was set up to advise the European Commission on banking legislation and to encourage closer cooperation between Europe’s central banks and supervisory authorities. Alan managed the practical establishment of CEBS’s offices in London, and supported the Committee’s main working groups. Prior to CEBS, Alan worked on international banking policy and supervisory cooperation at the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA). He has also served in the European Commission, in the directorate for economic and financial affairs, and in the team leading the introduction of the euro. Alan has also been a member of the secretariat of the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee (EFC, the committee preparing finance ministry and central bank discussions). He spent a year with the European Banking Federation (EBF), on secondment from HM Treasury (the UK ministry of finance). Alan started his career as an economist with HM Treasury.
